I've been wearing the wrong size bra for some time now & didn't even know it...had a fitting at a specialty lingerie store last week...lady told me that I'm not a 36D...I'm a 34F (F=DDDD in some brands). Problem I'm having is that the stores like Sears, WalMart, Kmart, etc. don't carry that size. J.C. Penny carries some, but at the time they don't have anything that I'd care to wear (I don't particulary care for underwire bras  )...Macy's & Nordstrom's bras in my new size are so pricey I can't afford them for the love of Larry! (I can buy 2 outfits that people will actually see me in for the price they want for one bra!)...anyone know where I might be able to get affordable bras in that size that are well-made and affordable or do I have to resort to breast reduction surgery? lol

I am seriously considering making my own bras... I have a book(my text book from my corset class in college) that goes step by step... only problem is to purchase it is about $60...
You might consider investing in a Junique bra.. pricey but well worth the fit. You can find them online. |
Fredricks has bras in that size and they usually have great sales. I wash mine in the machine, so they are pretty durable as well.
|
My daughter is 5 feet tall and a 34DD. When she was pregnant I forget what size she needed, but as you say - very pricey. She went on ebay and found the same size and brand that the fancy bra stores had to offer at half the price. So ... start googling and see what you come up with.
|
I just checked and they have a 2 for $26 sale online, it's just a matter of you finding a cut you like.
|
There is an online store Bare Necessities, that sells all kinds of bras, and all different sizes. They may be able to help you. It's
barenecessitites.com |
Victoria's Secret? Believe it or not during their semi-annual sale they are not out of orbit on pricing. Their new Incredible bra is really nice.
|
check out bare necessities -- it's the add at the top of the page!

i think they run small. |
there's a catalogue company called 'just for you' that has them all the time. often they run sales. send me your address and the next time i get one, i'll forward it to you and you can get on their mailing list. those are under $40 up to an H. we'll call that $$.
also come on over to NYC and i'll take you to the right stores. they fit you and everything. they have them right in stock and you can try them all on for the absolutely right size while a tailor and his wife yell at you when you want the wrong one. when you leave that store, everything is right where it belongs. and your shoulders aren't killing you. those are $$$$. aren't there custom places in ca? EDIT: i just reread your post. the catalogue is the way to go when they have sales. i don't know what price you're looking for, but they have about $30 on sale for no underwire with a fair - good selection. i never have any luck at sears or penney. |
I would like to find a store that will measure clients, accurately.
I've always worn a 34 DD but still bulge out here and there. Even with a mastectomy bra, they don't measure but fit all the bras they have and you get the one that fits closest. That still doesn't fit quite right, but close. Since I'm over 65= SS pays for more than one of these over priced bras, about $60 or so each about 3 years ago when I checked, (I don't go to doctors much) so I take it of course. We did have an excellent store here that advertised such a thing, then it closed right after that. So I stuff my right side and my bosom buddy into the other usual "almost fits" bras and try to forget it. |
Have you checked blair.com they have unusual sizes in bras
|
My sister wears the same size I believe. She has a really hard time too. we spent a good portion of the summer on the hunt looking for bras for her. She ended up finding a bunch at a local lingerie and what not shop. They had a few in stock and were able to order whatever else that she wanted. She seriously looked everywhere. Really hard to find them that small of width with that big of cup. She is also only 18 so she didnt want anything with huge wide straps and full cup bras that she couldnt wear with anything but a tee shirt. The local shop ended up having some really nice ones that were good quality and what she was looking for. 60 bucks a bra though. Good look
|
also, consider looking at 36F. they're easier to find and you can take in the back 1" on each side. remember that the cup will also be wider, so be sure to try on. they should also be available at places like kohl's and walmart's and like penney's. it won't be perfect, but it will be better.
you can retrofit a bra to fit yourself. put padding under the straps, reshape a cup that's too large, and take in a too loose back. i did it for years when times were hard. |
I just checked Ebay.
Type in Bra 34 F- lots of sellers with them came up. |
Just found this site online. Know nothing about the company but they have lots of sizes and good prices too! My 16 yo DD wears a 44 H so I've been looking everywhere with no luck. Not even Lane Bryant has them that big.

Been there, done that. Grooves in the shoulders at least 1" - 1.5" deep, hunched shoulders because when you meet people they talk to your chest not your face and hunching your shoulders helps hide your chest, back aches that only laying down helps. Went to a doctor and after a long talk decided to go for a reduction. WOW WOW WOW - I highly recommend it and because of the above mentioned things the insurance paid for it. I lost almost 8 pounds in "boob" weight. I decided not to go down to a small size but chose a D-DD. I have a small rib cage so going to a 34 D or DD was an OK change. And everything feels normal. I was big from age 15. My sister (10 years my elder) had the same problem (I think we inherited it) and after she saw the results from my surgery she thought and thought about it. But she waited and was 65 when she had it done. She wished she had done it sooner. My daughter (also cursed with a big chest) had surgery at 34. She had another baby at 39 and she was able to nurse her baby.
The first thing I did was go buy regular bras in a regular store at a regular price. WOOHOO - it was better than buying fabric (LOL). I've never regretted it. And you have right perky girls with no implants. It's been 20 years and I can still wear a halter dress or negligee and look good. And a bathing suit off the rack. Oh my goodness. Got a new lease on life. I felt sexy again. Used to joke that I went to "Omar the tent maker" for my bras but it wasn't funny. It was embarassing for me. I know a reduction it isn't for everyone but it was a good decision for me. Good luck in finding your bras. I know what a chore it is finding the right fit. I did it for many years. And if you ever think about a reduction and want to talk, PM me. Now if he could do the same thing for my "bottom" I'd be in great shape    'butt' I think that's a lost cause. Sorry for being so long-winded. Just wanted to share my experience. |
Consider a maternity clothing store. I used to work in one and they carried bras up to J cups. Ask for prenatal bras. They have nice wide sides and rigid straps, good for support. These days they are also much prettier too.

Lane Bryant. I am close to you, size wise, and they carry one I just love.

go to goggle and search the "ahh bra"
|
Thank you to all who surfed the web, googled and let me pick your brains...I REALLY APPRECIATE YOU!!! :D
I looked in all the websites you recommended and finally decided to order a bra from Freshpair.com (lol...love the name!)...Just hopin' it fits...I've never purchased a bra online before...takin' a chance here...but heh!...the price was right and FREE shipping...so I won't be out much if I have to return it. Hugs for your help! Sandy |
Go online and do a Google search for "34F bra"...there's a lotta places. Some say Sears, etc. have them, but it's usually an online order.
Here's an interesting place: http://www.herroom.com/34f,bras,34f,001,14.html |
Just My Size has a catalog and on-line and I love their bras. Before I lostweight I wore a - are you ready - 58H. Now I am down to a 40C. Anyway, great bras, lots of selection with no wires, and they even have a pretty good selection of front hook which I need after having my shoulder replaced.
Roaman's and Woman Within have a good selection too. And they run regular discount coupons. All three have emails that you can sign up for too. HTH |

Just My Size, Romanns, Woman Within are all good sites to order from. The Glamorize line of bras is really good for big sizes -- I buy them all the time, on sale, which they frequently are. OneStopPlus is kind of an umbrella store that carries Romanns, Woman Within, Jessica London, and a couple of other stores.
