Not to date you or anything, but they first appeared in the Lil' Abner comic strip in 1948 and quickly became a national craze!

Just looked it up and apparently was around until the '70's. I was born in '55, so I was definitely around when it was 8-)

Born in 53 here and I remember them but the memory is fuzzy. I don't remember what they did.

I was born in 1950 and have never heard of Shmoos. But I lived in Iowa in my early years, and our television (yes, tv's HAD been invented by then) only had two channels and a test pattern, so it's entirely possible I missed out on the fad.
