Windows 8
WINDOWS 8  Why??????????????????????????????????????????
You can't get there from here.............................................. ........................................ Learning curve............................................. .......................1k years? I don't use my computer for games and entertainment, I'm all for progress, however there should be somewhat of a transition. Just my opinion!:( |
Move your pointer to the bottom left corner, click on the icon for the start screen.
On the screen that comes up, click on "Desktop" icon. Wha la -- Windows 7 desktop appears. Feel better now? |

We've had Windows 8 for about a month and I totally dislike it.
I got it when I changed computers at work and I really, really dislike it. A lot.
I just got it. My husband likes it. We shall see.
I can get to the desktop, can't find excell...
Whomever came up with Windows 8 should be fired. It may work ok on a tablet, but not for a desk top.
Less than 6 months ago, I got a laptop with Windows 7 on it. My old desktop had Vista......I love Windows 7.....Vista is the worst memory hog and slowest OS I ever used. My new desktop which is almost 3 months old runs Windows 7.
I doubt I will go to Windows 8 anytime soon. |
It's just like a big phone. I quite like it.
wow husband ordered me a new computer (apple) before christmas we havent received
yet. oh i sure hope it isnt too hard for me to learn. this thing i am on know is a dinosauer but at least i can move around. slow but i can move around on it. |
I have not bought a new computer as I am worried that Windows 8 will be a pain to learn. I may have to just jump into it. I tend to be better at hands on learning.
my puter keeps flashing to upgrade to 8....glad I read this LOL
If you have a keyboard with a Windows key on it, push that. It should also toggle you between the start menu and the Desktop.
OK, so now you have 2 or three ways to do anything, instead of just one in Win 7. Not a big deal, just pick the way you want to run, and in awhile it'll all be natural. Sure, it may take a bit to find how a a few things work initially, unless of course you did an upgrade to an old Win7 system in which case everything should be pretty much in the same places, but once you are used to it, it's all good. One of the biggest things people have trouble with is shutting down/restarting their systems. Here's a tip or two: Move your cursor to the upper right side of the screen until the popout menu appears. Click on Settings. From there, Click on Power, at the bottom. There are your restart and shutdown controls. That's also how you get to the control panel and personalization panels. I can't imagine going back to Win7 and losing the new higher speed of the system, it's just so much faster. |
I HATE IT!!!!!
I'm keeping my Vista with the hope that it will not die onme until something better that 7 or 8 comes along. Everyone I've talked to with Win 8 dislikes it. If these people are smart enough to invent programs, why can't they come up with one that is user-friendly to all of us - not just the techs.

I have had it for 2 weeks. I definately hate it!!
I have been using it for a couple of weeks and am less than thrilled with it. I can't even report the errors in it to Microsoft. My Microsoft exec nephew says it is designed for war gamers. Phooey. the W7 and W8 sections don't even talk to each other! If my old machine were not totally dead, I'd go back to it. I have figured my way around, but I am not happy with it.
Never thought I'd install Firefox over Windows Explorer, but W8 convinced me...never going back.
I will just have to hang on to the computer I have, because if you buy a new one, it'll probably come with W8 already installed. I'll wait until they get all the bugs out & get the fixed up version :)
We recently got a new desk top with windows 8 What a loser bit of technology! So everyone bypasses the front page and goes right to the windows 7 desktop in the corner. My IT guy told me he could convert it to Windows7 easily I do believe I will be doing that. I have been looking for a new computer for work and of course they are all W8 but most of them say Windows7/8 that is how much most people don't want W8. If any of you are struggling with printing on the Windows 8, download Adobe. EASY fix!
Why didn't MS just "fix" the problems with their best, easiest to use OS...XP instead of costing us too much time and money for the junk they are putting out now; Vista, 7 and 8 are pains where a pill can't reach. I still keep XP on 2 of my 4 computers because I love it. My next computer may just be a Mac!!!
Do you really believe there will be a fixed up version???? It will probably be windows 9 and another fiasco!

You guys are scaring me! My new desktop will be here at the end of the week and of course, it is loaded with Windows 8. I had just gotten used to Windows 7 on my laptop in the past year or so. Will you all be around when I am pulling my hair out and need "friends"? I sure hope so. :D

We will be making you quilted hats and scarves to hide the bald spots from pulling out your hair. Until it all grows back in. :) :) :) |
Wow, I've never seen such a panic over a non-issue.
If you like the Windows 7 desktop, it's all still there. Just find the "desktop" icon and click on it, wha-la, Windows 7. Well, except for a couple of things. It's way faster, more stable, and more efficient than Windows 7... |
You're wonderful!!!
