I'm semi-allergic to bees --would've been interesting to have been stung on my tongue or lip!!!!

My husband did that once a long time ago at work. Luckily he is not allergic to bees. He actually swallowed the bee and was stung in the throat. Dr. asked if his throat was swelling shut, he said no so they told him to eat popsicles, lots of them to make sure it didn't swell. I found out after the fact. He is very careful now.

momcpo 09-20-2011 06:52 PM

My husband did that also. Stung him on the lip, looked pretty funny.

roda 09-20-2011 06:54 PM

DH did that but he wasnt lucky he got it on the lip. After the Cussing and scare and doctor he wouldn't talk to me I told him I was sorry but I couldn't help it after the doctor said he would be OK and he turned to me he looked so weird with those HUGE lips I giggled I know BAD BAD roda

tellabella 09-20-2011 07:08 PM

To avoid the possibility of being stung, always blow firmly into your bottle or can before drinking anything that has been sitting outside. The pressure of your breath taking up the space in the container will quite often force the intruder to leave the premises. ;-)

magnolia 09-20-2011 09:08 PM

I have done this before but luckily wasn't stung. I have been stung inside the mouth though (while riding my bike). And yes, I am allergic. It was not a fun experience and is very scary.

wanda lou 09-20-2011 09:21 PM

glad you wasn't stung.

blueangel 09-20-2011 09:26 PM

Glad nothing happened.

Annaquilts 09-20-2011 10:13 PM

The DH from a friend swallowed several bees out of a soda can he left unattended on the deck. Bad news he had to be hospitallized. I am glad you are OK.

And don't leave one open at a party. I went to take a drink of my soda once and someone had put out there cigarette in my can! I almost barfed. Yuck. I am glad you are ok. That would not have been fun.

SueDor 09-21-2011 01:44 AM

Glad you weren't stung!

mmdquilts 09-21-2011 02:25 AM

Glad you weren't stung. Being allergic is no fun. I am so allergic to bees that I can't even eat anything with honey in it. The last time put me on a ventilator for a week!

ptquilts 09-21-2011 03:07 AM

they make something now out of plastic, it snaps on the open can and has a top like a soda bottle, so you can keep it closed. Keeps the bubbles in too.

here are some

This actually happened to a man at work and he had to go to the emerg. room and because of it being on co. time/work related etc. they did a standard drug test which he failed because he had been doing drugs! What are the chances of being found out like that??!! Glad you didn't get stung!!

olebat 09-21-2011 04:47 AM

As the expression goes - Been there, done that, got the sting. The time, about 20 years ago, I was outside the fence watching one of my exchange students at tennis practice. I am mildly allergic, dashed out to the nearest fast food joint, which just happened to be a McDonald. (I have never eaten at the Golden Arches, don't plan on it, but all I needed was ice. They wanted to charge me 50 cents for the cup. I knew I didn't have any money with me. I left, walking to the BK next door. By the time I got in, my lips were swollen, and my eyes puffy. I must have frightened the clerk when I asked for ice. A customer walked me to a chair, and like summer lightning, someone had put ice in an apron and had it on my face. Someone was asking if I wanted to go to the ER, another voice was asking to call an ambulance, someone else had an eppi-pen in their car. I just sat there with my face buried in the apron of ice. I was having no difficulty breathing, so I thanked everyone, laughed at the experience of drinking a yellow jacket and asked if I could have a cup of ice to go. Not only did they give me the ice, they gave me a big cup of Coke, because it is a bronchial dilator. I keep those cardboard coasters with me most of the time to keep bugs, bees, and debris out of my drinks. Thanks to all of the good people in the world.

mardilee 09-21-2011 04:48 AM

I did that once and the bee stung me on the lip. I looked like Angelina Jolie for about a week. And it was sore a lot longer than that. Now, I always check!

huntannette 09-21-2011 05:30 AM

bobbie1 09-21-2011 06:30 AM

That happened to my daughter. She was in 1st grade and went on field trip. Bee got down in can and she got stung!
We buy only bottles now. Can put lids back on.

grannypat7925 09-21-2011 07:21 AM

A stroke of luck. How about pouring your soda into a glass so you can see what's in it! I rarely drink soda but always pour it into a glass of ice.

jad1044 09-21-2011 07:52 AM

that would be horrible, but I had a glass of iced tea and picked it up to find a litle green tree frog about to "sip" my tea! end of that glass of iced tea - but left it in an open dish if he happened to want more! lol

Snorky Lvs2Quilt 09-21-2011 08:45 AM

I have a profound fear of bees, wasps, hornets, etc. Stems from a childhood incident. I will not drink from a soda can under any conditions, whether inside or outside. I will always pour my drink into a cup so I can see if there is any "undesireable" in it. Yikes!!

countrycottage 09-21-2011 09:33 AM

So glad you weren't stung. I'm allergic to bees too.

Sheila_H 09-21-2011 09:42 AM

Wow, I see a bee around our deck I'm running inside I'm deathly allergic to them. I never drink directly out of any soda can I always use a straw so that might be my only saving grace. Glad you didn't get stung!

BuzzinBumble 09-21-2011 10:23 AM

Dee I would have freaked! Glad you didn't get stung!

One time a friend told us that if we left wine cooler bottles with just a little bit of wine cooler left in them around the sides of the porch that it would attract all those nasty yellow jackets and that they would drown themselves in the bottles.
Seemed like a good idea at the time, so we did it.
Well that night we heard quite a ruckus going on. The next morning the bottles all had clawed off labels and were laying here and there all over the yard. The raccoons had themselves a party and must not have minded a bee or two in their beverages. :-D

MargeD 09-21-2011 10:39 AM

Not bad, bad roda. I've done the same thing, laughed when someone fell on the ice, or like your husband with the swollen lip, I even laugh when I fall, for me it's a nervous reaction and I can't help it. Once a can of tuna fell on my toe from a height of about 2 feet and the can landed on the corner. I was hopping around, laughing, cursing, our puppy was hiding behind DH and when my DH saw the tears, he knew I was hurt badly.

penski 09-21-2011 10:52 AM

my dad did that years ago and it stung him , his mouth was swollen for over a week !!!

dixiebelle162002 09-21-2011 10:56 AM

Oh no! Glad you are OK. :D

auniqueview 09-21-2011 11:25 AM

I am very allergic to bees, more so since when we moved down here, I was stung the night before we moved by a wasp, and ended up having to stop in Gulfport for treatment. We made it down here, then I had to return to St. Louis on a turn around. I was walking thru the gangway between the houses and was attacked by three yellow jackets. YIKES! Being on the meds already helped, but OMG. Docs said to beware of the bees from then on, because they could be fatal.

So, of course we had a heavy bee infestation in the three big fir trees right in front of my front door. I couldn't leave the house by the front at all, and was in fear for my life. We called a bee keeper to see if he could come get them. He told us to get Dawn lemon dishsoap and put it in the lawn sprayer and spray the trees. We did, and the bees fell out and died. We hated to do it, but it was them or me.

I was driving thru town one day and two bees flew into the car window, right at me. I threw it in park and leaped out, lol. A nice man got them out for me. I really should carry an epipen.
