I wanted to do a course with this company.

Before shelling out a lot of $$, I would like to have your opinions.
Has anyone done a course from here or other similar online website?

I have a University education but got my degrees many,many years ago.

not from this site, but my DSIL got his BA degree from a small college in NH while living in MN. my daughter goes to college locally but takes many of the courses online. it's a great way to get an education in the comfort of your home. good luck to you.

Ranger ... As a fellow Canuck, I have seen lots of advertising for them on the TV of late and have no idea, whether they are good, bad or indifferent.

If it were me, the questions I would wanting to have answered would be ...
* how are degrees/courses via this method received in the work place?
* would I be employable as a result?
* who has successfully completed their courses?
.... and more!

If it were me, I'd be doing some legwork to find out what reputation they have.
Contact potential employers and find out.
Ask others working in this field.
Are they listed in the MacLeans listings when they rate universities?
And I'm sure there's other ways to find out more about them.

Online education certainly is expanding and being well received by employers. However, from what I know, most of them have been linked to recognized universities.

Not that this organization is not given as much credibility ... I'd just do my research and know before investing my $$ and time!

You've raised lots of valid points.
I will certainly ask lots of questions and check employers.
There are a couple of local places where I would like to apply for a job, so I will contact those and see what they know about this school.

Some more thoughts .... are they basically a maritimes based group?
The ads I have seen have all been on CBC-NL.
I noticed on their site that they are based in NS.

Also, when I was on the site the pop up came that you could chat directly with someone ... you could go on there and ask lots of questions!

If they are big in the maritimes, you should be able to find out lots as to how they have been received locally. Of course, with the wonders of the internet, their client base may not be at all in the maritimes!

I do not know about for profit schools in Canada, but in the U. S., there have been a lot of problems. Because the U. S. government helps subsidize higher education, especially for veterans, a lot of the schools are not in business to educate, just to collect fees/tuition. Check out the graduation rates, drop out/incomplete rates, etc. Also check to see employment of graduates. Everyone knows getting a job these days is not easy, but is attending this school helpful. Hope it works out. If I could have been a student all my life, I would have.

We have a State, Vocational, Educational and Accreditation Board (VETAB) where we could make initial inquiries. Do you not have a similar Government body? If not, I would recommend getting in touch with a number of well-known universities in your country to see what staff at those institutions had to say. I would also get in touch with a central law or lawyers organisation to see if there was much litigation against the company.

Contact the Department of Education of Nova Scotia to learn about this school. Do they recognize the diploma/ would the degree be accepted by an employer or for future education in a different school or university etc...

If it is for personal growth that is one thing but if it is for furthering your education or building for andother degree...research it thoroughly. My DD took and associates degree program from a nationally accredited online school. When she went to start her BA she found out that NONE of her credits would transfer as Florida community colleges and universities ONLY accept REGIONALLY accredited programs. She is starting all over! BUT the bright side is the knowledge she obtained can't be taken away!
