Just thought I'd share some pics of the WWII planes my Dad flew. He flew the fighter jet during the war. My Dad is 85 years old now and remembers the time of war as if it were yesterday, good friends, good experiences of flying. I brought my son to see these planes at the airport yesterday as they were having a little air show. He was so proud of his DG telling everyone "that's my Grampa's plane". Dad was there earlier and a lot of people came up to him to thank him and hear his stories of flying in the war. Mom said it was so touching as Dad is pretty feeble these days. I'm so proud of him!!!

Suzi, has Jacob ever been in an airplane? Probably not one in the sky, yet?
Your dad sounds like he has lived an interesting life. Did he keep flying after he got out of the military? A lot of pilots don't flow anymore, after being in service.
My hubby was on the JFK aircraft carrier, when he was in the navy. He watched a lot of landings and takeoffs, closeup. He says they're LOUD!
He flew off the flight deck one time...as a passenger
I just told him, he was reading my mind, as I was going to share the time, he flew off the porch...with my help! j/j...would I do that?

Thank you, I'll tell my Dad thanks from you!

Jacob has flown in an airplane two times with me, from Montana to Colorado and back. He loved it both times!

My Dad flew a Fairchild Lear Jet and a helicopter as a Corporate Pilot for Gates Rubber Company out of Denver after being in the service. He retired when my Mom got breast cancer to be there for her. He loved flying.

Wow the aircraft carriers are HUGE, I really like to watch the planes take off and land on them. And those planes are LOUD! I've been to a couple of air shows and had to wear earplugs. LOL he flew off the porch, now would you do that? :D

Suzic,

Thanks for sharing. I've always had a strong interest in WWII history and have the utmost respect for all who served. Having grown up in the military, I cannot express enough my gratitude for all the sacrifices our servicemen and women have made for our great country. My granddads both served in the Pacific during the war. They're both gone now, but I used to send flowers on Veterans Day as a small token of thanks. Please thank your dad for me as well.

Aww you touched my heart, sending flowers on Veteran's Day is very sweet and thoughtful. I will thank my dad for you. When you were growing up did you have to move all over the world?

No, we got pretty lucky. Spent a few years in Alabama (I was ages 1-4 yrs. so don't remember much of that). I grew up mainly in Alaska with a few years in Oregon as well. My dad was career Coast Guard. Military service in my family goes all the way back to the Revolutionary War though.

Wow! That is far back. Thanks to your Dad for his service as well!

Where in Alaska? Anchorage? I was in Teller when I was 14, way far North. My brother lived there for 30 years teaching in the bush schools.
