I have a 25lb Jack Russell/Beagle dog that I used to take biking with me. She is getting older now and tires more quickly. I have been trying to find something I could either carry her in, or on my bike while I'm riding. She is a little too big for the dog baskets I've seen for bikes. I currently have a crate on the back end, but she keeps trying to stand to look around me to see where we are going, so I am trying to find something for the front. I am considering child carriers for the handlebars, but haven't found anything that will work yet. So people want to carry their dogs for different reasons, age or health problems of the dog may be a couple of reasons.

Well for this trip our little grand puggie managed the trails... and thank you to those that replied to my actual question. She is a cutie.... but can't keep up to 15 kms of hiking.

I don't get it either. I have dachshunds and I don't want to lug a 20 lb dog around. Mine have really nice little harnesses and actually prefer walking to being held or carried. I've only had one that like to be carried and he was a drama queen anyway

In the past, when she was a puppy, I used an old baby ring sling carrier when she got too tired.

She was too young and small to keep up with us. Now, she is 7lbs, I take her in a dog back pack when I go to a store or area where she is not allowed to walk. It is great you take the pug on walks and are trying to find a solution if she can't keep up with you for the whole walk. I am sure she enjoys getting out instead of being left at home because she can't do the whole walk. At this point, my dog is about 4 yrs now, my dog out walks me. I think at 20 lbs or more a pack pack or stroller might be easier on your body.

Your pug is adorable. I heard they are great companion dogs.

An advert in the UK shows a dog in a baby front carrier. One or similiar would be fine. I had a papillion who would walk for miles but hated going near or across water. We had to catch him and put in a baby carrier in or near water which had been used for my nephews when they were babies.

As I mentioned before, thanks to those who replied to my actual question. Our little grand puggy can and will walk many kms with us... but her little legs are too short for hiking the mountains.... I'll still keep my eyes open for a solution to our unique situation....but in the meantime.... grammy will carry her if the hike is overwhelming.

Here's some sites that I found:

http://www.hobomama.com/2012/03/how-...y-carrier.html

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6_NRExB4vgk

https://www.cuteness.com/article/mak...carrier-purses

http://www.ehow.com/how_7769575_make...small-dog.html

https://www.reference.com/pets-anima...f15852c795c2f2

http://www.baxterboo.com/l.cfm/dog-carriers_dog-slings

Some of these show visual instructions, some don't. The last one is just a picture of some store bought slings that might give you ideas as to how to make your own. I could not find much on the web but maybe this will give you some ideas as to how & where to begin with yours.

I love little pugs (never owned one but love them). They are so cute.

Walking today and met up with a lady with 3 little doggies... 2 of them not able to hike because of their age but so neat to see her with a front pack for her elder doggies...only grammys etc will find this post a positive post.... don't even look if you wonder why anyone would care about carrying a doggie.

I have a special place in my heart for pugs! I had one as a child and will have one again some day. Yours is a cutie.
