Default How to determine if a charity is legitimate?

With all the disasters (man-made and 'natural') that we've had lately - there have been many opportunities to donate.

Is there a site that can tell would be contributors that the organization/drive/requests for help will actually give the donations to the intended recipients?

Very hard to figure out, look to see how much donated funds actually get to the intended ones.

The only group I will donate too is the Salvation Army, most of the money will go to the people that need it.

Just heard this on TV.

If you want to help the animals, please DO NOT donate to the Humane Society of the United States as they only share about 1 percent with local shelters (see HumaneWatch). Instead donate direct to the local shelter - Central Oklahoma Humane Society

I think it was on 60 minutes? that they were doing a story on what percentages charities actually give to people. They were going to give the site but I missed it.

Thanks Sunnie for posting this. I called the Moore County Animal Welfare & Adoption Center earlier this week and talked them about where to make donations. They have a post n their FB page as they have set up a Paypal account for people to donate directly to them also. That's where I made my donation.
