You know how much I like to talk to my friends. If I haven't anything nice to say, then I have nothing to say at all. (this was being said when she caught me doing something I wasn't supposed to be doing.) Always made me think twice after that.

I used to whistle,....Mom didn't like me whistling
She would say...'' Whistling girls and crowing Hens always come out to very bad ends''
It never made sense to me and she refused to explain.
In retrospect I think She thought only boys should whistle , so if I was whistling maybe she thought I was being ''boyish'' .....therefore...I would not grow up the ''right way ''.
It was a good thing she didn't know I was climbing trees... ! !
By the way....I did grow up the way my Beloved MOM thought was the right way.
