Brenda, when I was in my 20s I lived in Laredo. It was hot, but I guess at that age I could deal with it. What I could not deal with was snakes. I've only visited Florida, Rosemary, but the daily afternoon showers were a little too weird for me. Would be better if they came with a timer. I did live in Puerto Rico for a time and that was HOT and HUMID. Ugh. No snakes that I came across (although I'm sure there were plenty) but giant lizards and mosquitoes the size of helicopters.
In So Cal, it was too darn nice out, day in and day out, and in the northern part of the state the constant fog and dreariness was enough to put you over the edge into permanent depression. (Didn't Hemmingway live around there?)
Similarly London's weather was supposed to be good for the complexion, but I always felt so damp and dank I thought I'd start growing moss on my cheeks. Loved Tokyo's weather, but not the teeny tiny living spaces and crowds.
So, even though I really miss the mountains and trees, where I am now is a pretty good place to be. Most hurricanes skirt past us and make landfall further east. It's cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. I guess at some point you get past the salty grit and sand storm pits in your windshield and the constant thundering of the waves. Sometimes I don't even hear it any more.

Krystyna - it sounds as if you have lived in many places. Is that the result of a military life or a job or you just can't make up your mind? lol. I envy you that you have seen so much of the world. China, Greece, Italy, England, and Africa are on my bucket list.

i must admit this now, that i am a craigslist(cl) newbie. now i have sold items on cl for several years now and i bought all 5 five of my vintage singers off cl along with fabric scores. i often check on cl for sewing machines and fabric essentially.
well one day while i was seaching for fabric, i saw a listing for ethnic fabric & clothing (india) free for the giving. i just LOVE ethnic fabrics for their very colorful and patterned nature. but i was a day late and some ethnic fabric short. i lost my chance to get some fabrics from india. so i checked the listing once more and noted that is was listed under free stuff.
here is my cl newbie-ness, of all the times i have checked on craigslist i never once looked at the free stuff. wow! i went out there to look this past weekend and what a surprise of all the things that people were giving away: whole living room sets, a perfect piano, bookcases, container store containers, free stuffing, free batting, free garden rocks, free office chairs and desks, free yard/estate sale unsold stuff and the list goes on.
it's like a whole new subculture. who knew this was going on because i certainly didn't. i got 2 perfectly good white container store storage units (1 with a mirror) because that was all i could stuff in the back seat of my car, hoping all the time that they didn't cut into my leather seats. i really want that piano (i play) but just do not have anywhere to store it. and the bookcases, oh the bookcases. and today there is a rocking chair that is in a baby's room that i want (i luv rocking chairs too) free for the taking. no room though. the stuffing i will get to use for my donation pet beds because i was just given a box full of corduroy pieces. i am still trying to find where i saw the batting posting. i want that also. the woman who gave me the corduroy pieces said they just got rolls and rolls of 1/2" batting from an upholstery company free so i'm trying to see who listed the batting for free recently.
while i never knew about this free thing, as i was putting the container store units in my car, i saw a guy relaxing in his yard and i asked him did he want a wicker chair i had. my chair was much larger and made for relaxing outside. it had been relegated to my basement and it never occured to me to set it outside for the taking. so he walked down to my apartment and picked the chair up. i see it sitting under a tree in his yard, just where it should be.
now i get it how people are setting things outside free for the taking. we just want it gone. 
p.s. if i see a free bookcase that is much larger than one of mine, i will be getting it and setting mine outside free for the taking. i will keep watch.

K - was the moving hard? We will be moving to MI in the next 4-6 years and already dreading putting things in boxes and not knowing where things are. 20+ years in one house, we have accumulated LOTS. My fabric will be a lot easier to pack than his wood. Told DH he would have to turn a lot of wood, or we would have to burn it. He has 40 acres of trees in MI waiting for us.
SharonAnne - DH and I are coming to San Jose in a couple days for a national wood turners convention. Looking for fabric stores to ease the discomfort of leaving mine at home. Do you have suggestions?

Happy Birthday all you pearls! Prayers for you Teresa, and of course all others with aches, pains etc. Can't believe how behind I get on these threads, I feel like that guy that used to be on Ed Sullivan keeping all those plates spinning.

sil update: my sil was to start chemo thursday before last but is still in a holding pattern. the docs told her today that her strand of ovarian cancer is rare and they are not sure how best to treat it nor can they pinpoint a specific point of origin.
it has matastasized to several organs (including liver) and waiting just seems to give this aggressive cancer more time to spread imho. we are all very frustrated and i think the fear factor is creeping in just a wee bit....the what ifs. PUSH is my motto.... pray until something happens.
