My granddaughter turns one on July 4, and I noticed her yesterday in the church nursery carrying around a baby doll. So I thought about getting her one for her birthday, and wondered if anyone has suggestions for a nice first baby doll for a 1 year old. Thanks, everyone!

Oh they have the cutest little baby at walmart or target. When you stick the bottle in it's mouth it starts to suck. It seems like when you lay it down and rock it, it's little eyes close and it starts to snore. It's really cute and still simple. She would have fun with it now and then even more fun with it when she is a bit bigger. I'll see if I can find a link for it.

I thought about a Raggedy Ann doll, but they have button eyes, which aren't real suitable for a toddler who chews on everything.

One that washes easily. It will get dirty but you want it to look like a baby, too. Don't worry about clothes...it will be naked soon. A nice doll size quilt for it would be good for a new "mom" to tuck in the baby.

A soft cuddly baby with no batteries, no "extra" parts, nothing that can come off. The "babies" that do things need batteries, batteries can leak. When my dd was 3 I got her a doll that was motion activated. When you walked by it would laugh, or say "I love you" or "Pick me up, Mommy". She was terrified of it. She said, "Ebil ting, out my room!" Simple is better, it allows for growth of imagination.
