I have an oversize pretty flowery sham I thought I would do something with someday. Now I know what. 
I think I'll cut a long side off and hem it, and seam up the opening, since I have a big sewing machine.

You could make a hole in the lid and feed elastic, yarn, thread or binding tape through it.
