I had to put my 29 year old horse down yesterday. Hardest think I ever had to do. Have had him his whole life. I had his mother to age 34. It was a sad day. I wrote this poem for him.
Strutter
What a sight your were the day you were born,
We came home to see you hiding behind mom.
Gangly and thin you weren't much to see,
But we loved you anyway and got you to three.
You rode, and drove both single and double.
Taught colts to drive, and keep out of trouble.
Children you loved to teach how to ride,
You were my faithful friend, no one can deny.
Through thick and thin were there for me.
We rode the Black Hills and drove Iowa roads,
We showed the fine shows and held our own.
But now dear friend you are not able to stand,
So I must help you along the trail once again.
I will never forget the love that we shared,
Your kindness you showed to all creatures down here.
So travel one last time, to a trail long and free.
And wait for me, under that old oak tree.

(((HUGS))) - you had 29 wonderful years. That's longer than a lot of marriages. A beautiful horse and a lovely poem.
