This year is the first time in 20 years that we have had an algae problem with our pool. Anyone else have that going on this year. Maybe it was the extended period of nasty, HOT weather...

I think is because of the warm weather heating the water. I saw on the news about a massive algae glob floating toward the shore. We just beat the all time record for the amount of rain in August & it's not even over.

My pool guy said to shock it every week. We've not had a problem (yet) but I pour a gallon of bleach in pool each week plus the acid if needed. Pool is using 5-6 chlorine tabs each week this summer. Ck to be sure your chlorinator is turned way up...when temp is up over 95 you will use lots more chlorine.

yes we have had algae!! And it has been horrible to get rid of. I think it was because we went on vacation and it was stinking hot. Then it rained 2 inches so the chlorine and chemicals were out of whack. We've shocked it and used a lot of algaecide. I asked my husband did you use flock and back wash it? I knew we had some but he said we didn't. So I got it out and he flocked it. And the green particles dropped to the bottom. He had to put more water in as he was vacuuming to flush. He did this Friday and it is no longer green but a little cloudy. Labor Day is coming and he is so ready to close it up.

When I was married we always had a house/pool,and it seems like this timeof year we always had algae problems...my ex was very detailed conscious as far as the pool and pool water was concerned so I always felt like the issue was always beyond his control. As far as closing up the pool, we didn't close it until after Thanksgiving....had a swim party in the middle of October one year.....

When I was a kid growing up in the Atl GA area, the weather ALWAYS got cooler after Labor Day and I was always so excited so I could wear my new clothes....NOW,it stays warm until forever ! I really enjoy the change of seasons but they seem to overlap more than ever. Here we went from a very nice spring to a blistering summer and it hasn't let up since......

The overage of rain is diluting the cholorine as well as the sun. That in addition to the usual need for extra chlorine in summer causes algae. Been batling it in florida every rainy season.

It has been the worst year ever for algae. We've been fighting it all summer. But we also enjoy the pool.

We too have had algae problems this summer. Made the mistake of leaving the early 20's kids in charge of the pool chemicals for 10 days while we were out of town. Took almost 3 weeks to get it back in control. Our pool people told us if the algae is bad enough that you can't see the bottom, you need to add 4x the regular dose of shock. I about fell over, but it did the trick. Needed to do a lot of brushing and vaccuming afterwards, but it did work. Crystal clear and sparkling water now, which is just how I like it.

Yup probably all the hot weather, just chlorinate it really well and that should take care of it in a day or so. One year that happened to us and we did the shock thing and it made it all milky and cloudy for a week! Haven't used that stuff since. Just good old chlorine

yes, here too up north, the rain and heat is making us use way more chlorine than usual...and then the chlorine is disintegrating our solar cover!! Leave the cover off, then the sun eats up the chlorine!! We can't win.....we have had to use more algaecide this year than last year too.
