Talked with the A/C guy at the mall yesterday. He said most times, it cools off enough at night that your home unit will shut off once in a while..but here in OK lately that does not happen as night temps are still in the high 80's! So he said his company alone is back logged up to two months on repairing/installing units where the compressors have burned up!
He says we need to manually turn off the unit for about 30 minutes 2-3 times a day to allow it to repair/heal itself from the constant running!

Trying to convince "Mr it needs to be 74 at all times" DH of this is not going to be easy!

Thanks for that info, Jaci...I have noticed my a/c does go off around 3 a.m. LOL I think I will take your a/c guy's advice & turn it off a few times a day. We have been pushing the temp up to 77-78 during the day and then turning it down to 72 at night. Sure will be glad when this heat dome disapates!

We are starting to get a little better here in NM. The monsoons are here and we get a little rain in the afternoons, unfortunately not everyday.

Our news sources are suggesting raising the thermostat even higher to save the mechanics of the air conditioning unit. We teamed with the power company to shut down our A/C unit when high usage needs extra power. they add a nice little credit to our bill when it is shut down. We never know that it is not running. We have ours set at 78 day and night.

We lived in a place where the thermostat was in a room that faced South and to keep that room cool it had to be set lower. We moved the thermostat into another room (by going through the wall) and were able to set the temp lower and it ran less often.

We all need to help conserve energy...as well as our planet for future generations.

We signed up for this cut off service thur local power company. Not sure how power co. does it but a/c cuts off for a short time.

Duke Energy is our power supplier. With our permission they installed a special box near the meter. Those boxes are remotely controlled and power is off for no more than 30 min. when the power demand is extremely high. We have not noticed any problems.

In our area this is called "Cycled Air" ... they do it with a radio receiver. 15 minutes on 15 minutes off. Saves a lot of power.
