scarf window treatments

I have a bay window in my living room. I have used honeycomb blinds on the window... now I would like to add a scarf valance. Has anyone done that... my hubby and I can't agree... he likes the old drapery look... ugh... also. we have a traverse rod that he is attached too.... along with his money... doesn't want to opt for a new rod...HELP..... I had that in my bedroom and it looked very nice.
