School starts in Canada right after Labour Day and the back to school ads are everywhere. This year however, I'm feeling very strange about "Back to School". For the first time since 1976, my name is not on the teaching list as I have retired. My youngest is desperately studying for her nursing finals in September so I don't have any children to send back to school either. It feels so strange not to have to do all of that school shopping, moving a child into a college residence and spending all of those hours getting a classroom ready. Maybe I'll spend September 6th stitching my school blocks into a top which were given to me by friends to honour my retirement. I've also heard that our local retired teachers have a "To Hell with the Bell" lunch on the first day of the new school year. Lots of possibilities but it still feels weird! What interesting things have you done after retiring?

Joined this awesome board! Also my daughter presented me with a darling grandson last August and I get to babysit 2 - 3 days a week. I'm a retired school librarian. Last year was funny not going through the back to school business, but this year there were cuts to education budgets in TX - (Thank you politicians in Austin:( and I was so relieved that I didn't have to think about it....and my 3 girlfriends who are now all retired get to go to Fl. for vacation in Sept. Yeah!

It does feel strange to have such a drastic change to your routine. But, believe me, somehow or other you get used to rising at your own hour, doing whatever you want, taking off on a trip at the drop of a hat, etc., etc., etc. To me, it's as if every day were a Saturday. :)
