Ok, I never do this, well maybe I did once or twice, complain on the forum. But last weekend I made homemade dog bones for a fund raiser for United Way, and I ended up with a back ache, too much bending at the oven door level and standing and rolling and cutting dough. (the good news, they all sold!)

So, much of Sunday was spent on the heating pad and ice pack. And by Wednesday morning I was feeling normal. Then last night I did three loads of laundry and today at work, my hips are not swinging like they should. Stiff!

So, here I sit with the heating pad again. I am hoping this passes and my weekend isn't ruined. It just isn't fair. (and I know someone has it worst than me, and I feel for them)

Thanks for letting me tell this. I feel alittle better.

DO NOT do any lifting for a while. Let yourself recover.
No laundry, no dishes, no vacuuming, no... If the family complains, tell them to do it.

Do as Glassquilt says. Take care of yourself. I also have back problems & can emphathize with you.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

If the family complains, tell them to do it.[/quote] Or they can move out. LOL

Hope you feel better. Like Glassquilt says do not do any lifting pushing or pulling. Hop in a nice hot bathtub and just let calgon take you away and if you don't have any calgon....take a nice hot bubble bath. That will at least make you feel better if anything. LOL

You know, if you are getting back pain from everyday tasks like this, chances are that your back muscles are too weak. I had back pain on and off for over 30 years. Finally my doctor ordered an MRI and sent me to a back pain clinic. They had me come in to do supervised exercises twice a week on their machines, specially designed to work on back muscles, for a couple of months. I haven't had back pain since! And that was at least 5 years ago!

I let my back pain go on for too many years. My only regret is that I didn't insist on help for it years earlier. I still believe the only reason I got the MRI and referral this last time was because I broke down and cried in front of the doctor because I was so frustrated from the pain and not being able to do routine tasks.

Incidentally, the back pain clinic told me never to apply heat to an aching back. They said the pain comes from inflammation, and heat makes the inflammation worse. They recommended cold packs to reduce inflammation. They also said not to stop moving; if necessary, strap on cold packs in order to keep moving around. I even used a cold pack in the clinic so I could do the exercises longer. Here's a link to the type of cold pack I found the most useful:

This isn't exactly the pack I got, but is similar. Basically you want a removeable pack that can be placed in the freezer and strong velcro to keep the pack in place while you move around.
