I've been hinting for an e-reader for forever. I've been trying to decide between a Kindle and a Nook. Well, the men in my life (husband and 2 sons) took that decision away from me (thank goodness). My birthday was Friday and today they gave me a Nook as a birthday present. Now, I'm a very happy lady and I have a wonderful and supportive family.

The Kindle rocks! Just downloaded "The Clockwork Universe" this morning after reading about it in the book section of our newspaper. That is just one of the terrific aspects of Kindle, I'm already reading a book I just found out about this morning. My son and husband gave it to me for my 70th birthday and it is one of the best gifts I've ever received.

My boys gave me a Kindle for Christmas. I love it, but there are pro's and con's to it, just like anything else. As long as you are close to wiifi you will never be without something to read. The download is fast and the ready reading is very nice. Be sure to get the cords so that you can recharge the battery periodically.

On sale For $40. at Bed B & Beyond so Hubby thought I should have one few weeks ago. Didn't even take days to research as some did. This one is "Sharper Image " Liberati uses KOBO library. For that price I wanted it to try and like it so far. Even came with free case. Reads well in bed too. Easy to download and he figured out how to
even put them on my computer. Lots free. He put in an 8GH
sd card because we had one to replace original.

After researching- family in Canada bought brand that gave
them trouble so returned it. I got second one for my gd in Canada as 18th yr birthday present so hope no
trouble to use in any country.

I still have some "real" books to hold & read .

In addition to the diminished reading comprehension in general, e-readers are not speed reading friendly. In speed reading (inappropriately named) you read intros, epilogues, the last page of a chapter, headings, etc. prior to beginning the chapter.

You have to find new strategies for studying and retention. Situational awareness.

I too thought I wouldn't want to give up the feel of a book in my hand, and guess what, I haven't. There are no Kindle Police that say once you get a Kindle, you can read only on it. I love my Kindle, I think most of the women in my family have one now. It has been especially great this winter when I was snow bound and couldn't get out. The closest bookstore is 45 minutes away; if I want to be on the waiting list for 6 months, I can hold out for the library. Now I can have a new book whenever I want one, and I can still buy hard copy books at the store.

I love my Kindle. The cost of books ranges from $1.00 to the cost of a new book. It's great not having to store all the paperbacks and new hardback books. It's great for travel too. I do recommend that you get the light and the ability to order over the internet with it.

My DH and I both have one. we also spent the extra money and got the leather covers with the built in light. It's great for trips, making the fonts bigger and even reading on the beach. He does all the downloading right noeand has picked out all my books by the book descriptions and knowing what I like to read. If I don't like it i can just delete it. He has also loaded games on it. I probably have 50 books and games on my Kindle and all but a couple were free. He researched it before he bought and decided that this was the best for us. If you live near a Barnes and noble and have a nook, You can go in there on a certain day and download for free(don't quote me on this) I think the only drawback at this point with the kindle is when the battery won't charge anymore, you have to send it in to Amazon and have them replace it. Hopefully that will change b/c I don't think you actually get your own kindle back. I would go to the stores and check them out and see which one you like. My husband got me a Kindle for our Anniversary in November. I love it. It holds several versions of the Bible, several games and many books. I can set the font to any size I want to make it easier to read and there is no glare on the screen. Recently wen on a cruise and found I had a tote bags worth of books and games in my little Kindle. Makes packing much lighter. There are a lot of ree books you can download and those books that cost are a lot cheaper than they are in the stores. I highly recommend it.
