Sunday was another rainy day here. Went to church and came home. Fixed a big breakfast for me and hubby.

Went down to basement where my studio is. I have just finished piecing a donation quilt and thought I would attempt to FMQ it. I have practiced on small blocks, but never a quilt. I have a Baby Loc Quilter's Dream machine.

Started some meandering in the background and was having a great time. It looked fairly good for a beginner.

Before I knew it it was time for dinner, and my husband came down and said,if you want to keep sewing, I could go and pick up some Chinese for us.

Great idea! So I kept sewing.

Well, I just about finished the background and felt pretty good about it.

Problem is - now, two days later, my eyes are killing me! Haven't been able to sew at all. Didn't realize it was going to be such a strain on them. I think I now have to make an appt. with the eye doc. Probably need stronger glasses.

Has anyone else noticed a change in their eyesight since they started quilting?

This is really a bummer.

Guess I will just have to clean house for a while!

I wear bi-focals and they adjust the bottom of my glasses to how close I am to what I am working on. So for reading they work great but with my new ones I can't seem to get the right distance for the computer. I have a feeling I may have to get several pairs to cover reading, quilting and using the computer.

Could it be that perhaps you just need better lighting? I hope its an easy fix, especially as you were enjoying yourself.

Maybe you could try some of those reading glasses you can pick up in the drug store and see if that helps.

Nope, haven't had that problem. Yet. I can honestly see it coming as my eyes get affected by allergies and sitting on the computer too long affects them too. My biggest issue is having to wear glasses in the first place to sew. Hate them. But can't see the needle hole or tiny stitches unless I have them on. Can't get contacts either according to dr.

I have to make sure the room is bright enough, then I don't need the glasses... but quilting into the evening... I better have them handy.

I would recommend more lighting as well. Take it easy and try to rest your eyes for awhile. I hope you feel better soon.

I have strictly computer glasses that work for the SM as well since the distance is nearly the same. They are wonderful.

How is your light? A bright light helps.

My eyes are changing due to a med I'm on for nerve damage in my back and feet. When I feel they have changed all they are going to, I'll make an appointment with my optometrist.

Sounds like you've given new meaing to the term 'tired eyes'.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I forgot to mention that I already wear glasses - tri-focals. I do have good lighting, so that isn't the issue. Looked up my last visit to the eye dr and see it has been 2 yrs. Looks like it is time to go back.

I haven't noticed, except when I nee a new pair of glasses. Bright light would probably help. I have been quilting for years. Just happens gradually. One of the bennies of old age, everything is harder to see.
