Apparently for my 12 year old DD, sock monkeys are all the rage right now. They are dressing them in premie baby clothes. Where, in a small town, would I find the right socks? Some of the girls have them in pretty pastel colors. I found great instructions online, and know I can make it, IF I can find the socks. Any suggestions??

They are becoming really popular here too!! My grandma gave me a kit with the socks and the pattern to make a monkey or you could make an elephant. It the classic grey with the red/orange socks. The kit is really old, she has had it forever and just never made them.

Anyway, I got it from her a couple months ago and my boyfriends daughter (age 12) saw it and thought it was sooooo cool and said how bad she wants a sock monkey! I thought it was pretty strange, but now that I see this thread I guess it is becoming popular again.

SHEESH I'm only 26, and I'm already out of the loop on what is cool!!!

Yeah I looked it up online. I can online fine the familiar gray ones. I wanted to buy locally if I could, and wanted the pretty pastels.

I couldn't find anything in pastels except monkeys that are already made. I am guessing you want to make it yourself. I would just try any store that would sell wool socks and see what they have. I get my wool socks to wear with my snow boots from Fred Meyer. I would also try at target, walmart, kmart, etc.

AH! great idea- wool socks. DUH! I had a sock monkey as a kid, but of course kids never pay attention to what things are made of. Wool socks would be big enough too. Thank you!
