Talking Adopt a fabric.. new words!!

I was just looking at the Eleanor Burns email when I saw Adopt a Bolt sale going on. I thought hmmm.. Those are my new words when I buy fabric: I am going to adopt some fabric; I am adopting material for future usuage, etc .. LOL

I enjoy Eleanor's quirky words and use them quite often on the DD's (they just roll their eyes at me !LOL Imagine that one LOL).

So now it will be: Honey I am going to adopt some fabric (I cannot wait to see his face when I say that one to him !!)

Are there any special words that you use when you go out fabric shopping (Other than OUCH- the price of cotton has gone up as I recently found out at the LQS..) ?

Last week, my DD asked me to go with her to a LQS that was closing due to owner's retirement. I did not need any fabric and told her I was going just to keep her company. $102.00 later, I'm telling her "It's all your fault". lol

My favorite fabric connection in Toledo was Hancocks and when I came through the door some one would ask if this was a good day or a bad day= I only buy fabrics if I've had a super good day where every thing goes right or on days when I was feeling a little down and needed to be perked up. Hey this works out good for me cause I always left there happier then when I went in.

Not now, but when my DH was working and I was between jobs, my girlfriend and I went to a LQS that was closing. Oh, those are dangerous words - "50% off", so you can buy twice as much for the same price. Dangerous times as I bought too much fabric, glorious batiks, beautiful Christmas, backing fabrics (best deal was $2.99 at LQS who needed room for new fabric, but same fabric that had been on her shelves), so, so much fun and my credit card was smokin'. Unfortunately, those days are long gone, but it was fun while it lasted, and yes it was "her fault". LOL Everybody loves a bargain, and when I finish up the many UFO's I have on my list, I'm going to start "MY QUILT", a Boston Commons done all in batik fabricsw - it was fun finding the fabric for that quilt, but the fabric is starting to get dusty, so I need to get busy. I'm sure you and your DD had lots of fun buying fabric and just hanging out together. Lucky gal.

At least your DD will go quilt fabric shopping with you. I have 3 daughters. One doesn't enjoy sewing but at least her youngest daughter likes to sew. The middle one sews drapes and various craft items, but no quilts. And, then, there is my oldest daughter---She said to me,"When you die, Mom, don't will me your cloth!"

LOL Years ago when I was still working I "adopted" lots of yardage for "someday".
Well now that I am retired about 15 years I realize that the value of the fabric has increased greater than the interest on my retirement account. DH never begrudged me buying fabric. He is gone but I have fond memories of the many quilt shops he drove me to get my "fix"
