My understanding is that yes, legally you can, as long as you do not claim that the item is an official Chicago Cubs item. But if the team decides to sue you, even if they are in the wrong, they can cost you a lot of grief and expense.

I did a quick search and found this article about the specifics. In a word, no. It appears to be illegal to sell things with the NFL logos unless certain criteria are met.

The selvage on my Seahawk fabric is quite explicit. No, no, no. I make and give things to family, but would not risk selling anything made out of it. Although I have seen things on Etsy made of Seahawk fabric. To me, it's just not worth the worry, so I guess you have to make your own decision on how much risk you like to take.
