My family had problems with stolen quilts and other things that had been given to my father who was living in a nursing home the last four years of his life. Because my mother spent part of each day there with him, she immediately noticed when something was missing. We later found out that some of the items were taken by employees. One time my youngest brother made a huge fuss about a gift from one of our family members that had been stolen from my father's room. After about a week of his continually going to the office to check to see if it had been returned and making another huge fuss when it hadn't been, someone finally got the messsage he wasn't going to let it drop and the gift was returned. Mom finally had to take every gift home where Dad never got to enjoy them. Several stolen gifts were donated by caring quilters such as yourselves. I hate to think of all of the patients who have lost gifts in this manner. It keeps me from donating to nursing homes. My DMIL passed away just a couple of weeks before my Dad died. Both ended their lives in nursing homes.

This is so sad ! these people who do this are the lowest of the low, so sorry for the loss of you Dad and MIL.

Guess it depends on the employee. I shipped my quilt by UPS and they never questioned it. I told them what was in the box. I rarely ship anything to a residence if I have a choice of shipping it to a business address. There you get a signature and they don't leave it on the porch. If I have to ship to a residence I request an adult signature.

Sorry for the loss of your quilt. Some people have no conscience.

Someone stole all the new toys for the Pineville WV toy fund party for indigent children this year. There are some BAD people out there, will take anything and no conscience whatsoever about their actions. I imagine there have been a lot of stolen quilts that people don't even report to anyone, not to mention other stuff. So sad.

yep, someone stole a quilt i made my Sister while she was in for therapy for a broken hip. I hope they liked her name sewn into the quilt!!

people are stealing everything they can nowadays its sad to be that desperate. I worked in a nursing home when I was just out of high school it was a large home I think they had over 100 patients I don't see how anything like a quilt could have been stolen from there because we clocked in and out right by the front office and were supervised just about every moment of the working day. Stuff did disappear but we always found it in another patients room.

My DH and I were just saying yesterday, that the world seems to be getting worse, no feelings for anyone or anything. It is as though some think it is their right to take anything they happen to see. What will it be like when our grandchldren and great grandchildren are adults?

I am so sorry for the loss of this quilt!!!
