text by email

on another thread, this came up and i thought it would be of use to others. did you know that you can text from your computer email? the text email address is shown here

so if i need to text my kids a longer message than OK, i use email text.

Hmm, I wonder if this only works in the US - does anyone know, it sounds a great idea.

When my husband was deployed in Iraq he would send me text messages via his email :) worked great.

I don't have the numbers with me but all most all of the cell phone carriers have it were you can send an email but you use the phone #. You put in the phone#[email protected] check this site for other carriers. I hate texting on the cell phone but dont' have a problem sending them an email

If I send a text to my grands does the answer come back to my computer?
They seem to live on their phones and I won't/can't spend the money to text from my phone

Only if they email you; which they can do from most phones. I don't think it will if the text. That being said one of my kids friends tried to send me a text message to my home phone ther other night; it was a voice recording and I couldn't hear it.

They can send a text to your email. Ask them for help I bet they know exactly how to so it :)

Our carrier is Tmobile. To text my kids from the computer to their phones ( they receive them as a picture message) I use their phone number with area code and then @tmomail.net

They reply back to my email.
