The Canadian Thanksgiving is next weekend, does anyone have any ideas for little craft things for the kids to make!? We like to make things to give to the grandparents. But my brain is not working and I can't think of anything!!! Please help!!!!!!

Are your kids old enough for the sewing machine?

Maple Leaf coasters !!
(oh how Canadian ... and seasonal!!)

First, find a real large maple leaf!!
And some autumn coloured flannelette.

Trace outline of leaf onto stacked layers of flannelette, stacked so that right sides are out, top and bottom.
Cut the way they are stacked and keep in the stacks.
Stitch with raw edges out, which eventually will give a raggy look.
Stitch along the veins, to give some quilting.

Grandparents will be thrilled ... and something practical to use!

I was thinking afterwards that homespun fabrics might be easier to find and nicer for this than the flannelette. It would be easy enough for the kids to sew around and won't matter too much if they don't do a really even job. Certainly easier than trying to turn it inside out, with all the curves!

You could also do oak leaves for variety.

I made pumpkins with my two grandkids out of toilet paper, you just need an orange FQ. We went outside and got sticks for the stems and glued some silk leaves to the stem. Easy! Fast! And if you ever run out of TP, just unwrap this. Here's a site with some directions.
