Once upon a time and somewhere I saw info about making a thread bowl from all the saved thread snippets. As I recall, the snippets were soaked in something and the resulting mass was shaped over an inverted bowl to dry. Does anyone have instructions and has anyone tried this?

I am not familiar with this type of bowl. ??? I know about rope/clothesline bowls and bowls made with 'timtex'.

Sure hope someone has the answer.

I would guess that you would blow up the balloon first!! then soak the thread clippings and fabric snipets in something like Modpodge ( art and craft glue ) then smear them onto the balloon, making a bowl shape. Allow to dry for several days and pop the balloon. You could then give the bowl another coating of Modpodge and allow to dry again. Of course, this bowl would be DECORATIVE ONLY and not for food or the micorwave. I just saw a bowl ( pintrest maybe? ) made from buttons, all glued onto a balloon....it was cute!!!

Also, A gal showed a little pouch at a meeting yesterday where she had put thread snippets on wool, layed the thread snippets over all of it and then put some sort of mesh (organza?) on top and meandered all over it to hold it in/on. She then cut it to make whatever she was making. I suppose you could also cut it in a circle and invert it over a bowl to dry. It seemed fairly simple but I didn't get a real good look at it.

Saw that, too, but I don't remember where. I saw it once where you used glue and put threads in the glue on plastic over a bowl and let it dry, but I always thought the glue wouldn't be hard enough. Then I saw one that recommended Aleene's Fabric Stiffener, I think it was, that used little pieces of fabric.

Definitely on my to-do list!

I have instructions for making the thread bowls, I just need to find out where I put them on my computer. If I remember right you spread the threads, snippets of fabric, etc., on a layer of Sulky dissolvable something, then cover the threads, etc., with another layer of the Sulky, wet it, put it over whatever shape you want it to be and let it dry. I'll look for the real instructions and get back to you on it. I haven't tried it, but am saving my threads, etc., to do so.

I have seen it, and I have even done it! I do not remember where I saw the instructions or how I did it! I hope someone here can tell us!

You spread the threads over water soluble vilene and then sew all over the surface randomly. Once you have ensured the threads are connected you place the piece into water and dissolve most of the vilene. Don't wash it out completely. Whilst it is still wet, drape it over the base of an upturned bowl and allow to dry. Nancy Zieman has a video on this .
