Thrift Store Prices

Yeah, a used t-shirt is crappy condition for $4, I don't think so! They used to be $.99 not too long ago. I think they have realized people with more money are shopping there so they are trying to take advantage. I try to buy whatever color tag is on sale only unless it's super cheap or I *must* have the item and those are few and far between.

Around here, the change started a year or so ago. The thrift store parking lots were full of pricier cars, and an upscale crowd seemed to take over, Meanwhile, store rents went up, driving a lot of bargain places out of business.
Bargains are getting harder and harder to find. Like ptquilts said, some places want more than things cost new!

yes, and now even making clothes will not be inexpensive due to fabric being sky high - self sustaining as much as possible gardens, canning, sewing what can be sewn, mending, etc. I'd love to even have chickens - but can't yet. Hanging clothes on the line - less money out for electricity. Keeping all things off during the day will help... we didn't run our heat last year - we would cook in the evenings instead to warm up the kitchen and family room for the evening then go to bed... many ways to save money to be able to buy clothing, etc. Try bartering among friends even...

I don't think the show "Storage Wars" is helping the thrift shop prices either...these guys are going and paying a TON of money for storage units, and then have to make that money back...
I know our own storage auctions have prices going sky high because of the show...

For the Salvation Army store here in our area, over-charging is not new. They wanted $6-8 or more for jean with holes in embarrassing places on them. I don't get it. What a rip-off! A lot of stuff with stains all over the front, too.
