Does anyone have a good recipe for a rolled sugar cookie. I am not wanting the thin ones. I want the one for the thick ones that you decorate. I also do not want the short bread one. I do not like short bread cookies. Thanks ahead of time.

Yep!! I have a great one from my mommy!!

whip these five ingredients together in a bowl
2 cups of white sugar
1 cup of un-salted, sweet butter (best at room temp)
2 eggs (best at room temp)
2 teaspoons of vanilla
2 tablespoons of cream

sift the following together
4 cups of white flour
2/3 teaspoon of soda
2 teaspoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Add about a cup at a time to the bowl, unitl completely mixed
Thightly cover the bowl with Saran wrap and put in the refrigerator for 30 minutes, over night is fine. Take out about 1 cup of dough, flour your board and rolling pin, roll 1/4 inch thick. Bake in a 350 degree oven until lightly brown around the edges.
If you bake like sizes together, don't mix small and large cookies on the same sheet, they turn out better.
Cool and frost!! Let me know if you need the recipe!

This is my grandmother's tried and true recipe! I usually double it when making Christmas cookies. Hope it helps!

6 tbsp. margarine/butter
6 tbsp. confectioners sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg yolk
1 cup flour

Mix butter & egg yolk. Add vanilla. Mix in sugar, then flour.
Chill dough. Roll to desired thickness and cut out with cookie cutters.
Bake at 350 for 8-10 minutes until golden brown.

Here's one that DOES NOT NEED CHILLING. Notice the nice whole numbers -- makes it easy for young bakers!

CHILDREN'S SUGAR COOKIES
1 c. sugar
1 c. butter or margarine
1 egg, large or medium (increase flour if xl)
1 tsp. vanilla
1 tsp. baking powder, stirred into
3 c. flour (Or omit bp and use self-rising flour)
Mix sugar, butter, vanilla, & egg together well. Add leavened flour.
Roll on floured surface, sifting flour on top of dough to prevent sticking. Cut and place on cookie sheets with thickest near edges. Bake 6 - 10 minutes at 350.
Allow to nearly cool on pans. Flex pan to loosen.
