I also recommend the Kankamangus Hwy in NH and you are so close to Keepsake quilting. There is a Jellystone campground RV park in the area as well. I have camped there a couple of times during the Laconia motor cycle rally. It has been a long time but when I did, it was clean and well maintained. Lake Winnipisaki (sp?) should be beautiful that time of year.

Check carefully your timing, by then some of the far N may be gone! We've got friends in Franconia NH and I'm pretty sure that would be too late. DH just called out end of Sept to Mid Oct in the White Mtns.
Google fall foliage in NE, this site was one that popped up:

but there were a whole bunch more.
Almost any road in NE will be beautiful, we like the Mohawk Trail & Rt 2 In Ma, since they are further S you might have better luck if you are going to do 1 st week.
Just keep in mind that it's a natural event and the weather plays a huge role in the turnig of the leaves and that's the weather all year, how much rain the trees got, etc. As it gets closer, keep checking.
My favorite are the sugar maples, they turn that bright crimson red...set off by the bright yellows...
If you've never been to NE you also might like to take day or more trip to Nantucket (our favorite) or Martha's Vineyard. Both really neat places.
Enjoy it, maybe we'll cross paths, we're usually back visiting family that time of yr, we have a wedding in the Finger Lakes of NY in late Sept :)

thanks everyone...I already had the Bennington Museum & Keepsake Quilting on my list..(I started a little notebook of places I read about or that are recommended)'greenini' I especially appreciate your recommendations...I had wondered if we should start out the last week of SEpt. We are hoping to find a couple of central location in NE to park our rv and just do day trips from there for 3/4 days, then move a little further for 3/4 days. Don't want to have to pull up and move the 5th wheel every day. Keep the ideas coming you guys, I'm getting really excited!!!

Camping in the NE can tend to get expensive if you park in commercial RV places. They have a smaller window of time to get $, plus things including utilities, taxes, etc are very expensive.
We love the Burlington Vt area mostly due to the Shelburne museum, tho I wasn't overly wowed by the quilts they've got up right now, there is so much else there it is well worth a couple of days, entry fee is good for 2 days.
I know you will love it esp. if you can find a centralized location to drop the 5th wheel and cruise around in the truck. It may very well get chilly so pack warm jackets and rain gear...we were out in W Mass in the fall and it started to snow...we were at the Bridge of Flowers an old trolly bridge planted with flowers another cool place to check out if you're in W Mass at all.

Still hoping for more of my QB friends to give me suggestions. Maybe give me predictions on best time to be there. It will take us a few days to get there from west Texas, so we really need all the help we can get as to when we should leave here to arrive at the peak foliage viewing time.

Latest update...we leave early Wednesday morning. I have posted a few times asking for suggestions & ideas for our trip and the board has been so generous. You all have suggested lots of places to see, things to do and places to go. We are beyond excited and thank yo all from the bottom of our hearts for all your help. I will be posting photos along the way so look for post about our trip. And again thank you all so much!!!

we're on our way too. my 28 year old nephew is getting married saturday in seneca falls, ny so we're in winchester, va heading there, but it's raining today. it's been cloudy the whole way up, we're taking our time....
