I remember when I was a younger teen and my gram came home from work with a huge bag of notions, patterns and fabric that some wonderful woman gave her to give to me. It contained yards and yards of this coarse-woven white/light blue/ugly brown plaid that I honestly tried to like (way worse than it sounds). Even then I wanted to make a blanket/quilt out of it, but just couldn't bring myself to. I can still picture it - and it still makes me cringe.

My daughter made a Stack N Whack from a really ugly fabric. It was very pretty when finished.

I did a pineapple from ugly fabrics. I had my doubts at first, but it turned out gorgeous.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder ! I have seen some fabric that someone posted as ugly and I loved it. On the other hand, sometime one will show a fabric that they just couldn't resist and I wouldn't have it in my house! Good thing we're all different !!

It is indeed beautiful ... and I'd love to see what that "ugly" was in its virgin state! Would you post a pic of it? Please? and Thanks!

Yes! I have made a few quilts with lots of ugly fabrics.

I was in an ugly fabric swap once and I thought a lot of what I got was really pretty. I made a quilt from that swap that I called "Who Let the Dogs Out?" I found when working with ugly fabrics that if I put a real lousy fabric next to a bright red fabric, you barely notice the ugly one!

I made this table toppe for my daughter with lots of old fabrics from her childhood. The 70s are known for ugly fabric. This little quilt is full of them. But they play well with newer prettier fabrics.

I agree that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Well, I don't have any of the original fabrics left, I ended up giving the scraps to a friend who wanted to replicate the quilt as best as she could. But here are some close-ups of the fabrics I used. I HATED the pinkish/green geometric fabric in the bottom triangle of the first picture.

Somebody told me once that if you think a fabric is ugly, you haven't cut it small enough yet. :)
