I am thinking about getting a couple of veneers to fix a gap between my front teeth. I know this procedure is common, but I'm only 27 so I'm a little afraid of making a commitment that involves filing down my permanent teeth. I've also seen people where you can tell they are wearing veneers because of dark lines above the teeth.

Has anyone had long-term veneers or can offer some advice?

P.S. I'm a worrier, can you tell? :)

I would worry about the same things.

It's good/nice that people can have these things taken care of now.

SIL had them put on. They chose teeth that were much larger than her originals and she ended up looking like Bugs Bunny. Eventually she had to have them all pulled. Have you thought about a partial instead (Lauren Bacall)?

I have had a veneer on a front tooth for about 20 years. The dentist etched the surface and stuck on the veneer. It has been great until this week. The problem is not the veneer. The underlying tooth has had a root canal for over 40 years? The tooth itself has snapped off. I don't know if there is enough to get capped or if I am looking at a bridge.
As long as the dentist has a good reputation for doing quality dental work, you shouldn't have a problem. Ask if you can see an example of the veneer size in a mirror before you commit to the process. As another board member said, you don't want to look like Bugs Bunny.

I think Veneers are pretty expensive & not covered by most dental plans. If you can afford it, I would go for the Invisiline braces. I had very crooked teeth & did the Invisiline braces in my 60's. Braces were not an option when I was kid. Best thing I ever did. I'm for keeping my original teeth as long as possible.

I go along with the invisuline braces. The thought of having my teeth filed down doesn't appeal to me at all.

I've had a veneer on my front tooth for probably 10 years. I need it replaced because it's gotten chipped. They're not covered by insurance (usually) and you have to be careful with them as you can't eat tacos, hard foods etc. and you'll need to baby them. They are wonderful to have, but do have some drawbacks. You won't have a dark line if you haven't had a root canal. I'll be having my one replaced in the near future.

Braces or another alternative. Veneers may not be permanent. Cousin had veneers, ended up losing them all due to tooth decay underneath. Sister had them and they used an horrific overly blazing white color that you have to have on a very good pair of sunglasses when she comes within 20 feet of you. Not kidding. She regrets ever doing it. They both paid cash (lots of it) as their insurance would not cover a penny of it.

I have had them for nearly 20 years for the same reason -- a large gap in between my front teeth. I have had no problems with the veneers at all. No looseness. No discolorations. The color matches my real teeth very well. The dentist showed me the color choices and we talked about it several time before choosing.

My problem is with my real teeth. Over the years, my real teeth have migrated a bit farther apart. I need slightly larger veneers to fill the gap in better. I'm still holding off because they still look way better than when I started.
