Just thought if it happened to me...it could happen to someone else.
A few weeks ago, I purchased some things at WalMart and passed over my signed check. Got my receipt and my check back and just shoved it in my pocketbook. This morning, I was cleaning out my bag and found the receipt and the check. The check was never printed on! I've been carrying around a blank signed check that anyone could have filled out and cashed. Lesson to me to be more aware!

NEVER sign a check before hand. When the check is automatic withdrawel like Wal-Mart and Sam's club it is NOT necessary to even sign the check. The check should have VOID VOID printed by the register.

Tell cashier will sign check after it is printed.

At our Walmart we don't need to sign the check at all. They run it through the register and we sign electronically. We then get the receipt and the voided check back.

I hate that. I prefer to charge it and then pay when the bill comes.

I had a very strange thing happen that also says "check your checks". I had paid a bill to a fed agency, but I forgot to fill in the blank of who it was to. (I don't know what I was thinking) When I was checking over my cancelled checks I saw a check written to student loan. I have not had a student loan for many many years. Someone had gotten ahold of the check(I'm assuming someone opening the mail at this agency), saw an opportunity, and put it on her student loan. I called the agency and told them what happened. I don['t know if they checked into it or not. lotstodo is right. check you checks.

Well, you had better look into it yourself then, don't you think?

I called the bank and they put the money back in for me, so I'm not out anything now, but it's a lesson learned.
