Don't the doggy doors have those RFID (radio frequency i.d.) locks on them nowadays? The dog has a collar with a microchip in it. The door stays locked until the dog comes near it with the RFID and unlocks the door. If the dog is being kenneled while you're on vacation, the door stays locked.
