Ouch, reminds me of the time I broke a coffee mug while doing dishes. I cleaned up everything and bandaged my hand where there was a small cut. Cut healed but when ever I would grab something hard it would hurt a bit. A year later I was doing dishes, hands softened I guess from the water, and while drying my hands on a towel I found a thin sliver of china coming out of the flesh right where I had cut it a year ago. Didn't even hardly bleed. Weird!

Something similar happened to my MIL years ago. She had a sore toe for a long time and it would flare up, then get better. One time during a flare up, she was hospitalized, fell and broke her hip. The surgeon insisted on an xray of the foot before operating. Sure enough, she had a sewing needle inbedded straight through her toe. They took it out of course, but she passed away after the operation from kidney failure. When I think of all the doctors she saw and none of them did an xray!!! I still miss her 20 years later, she was a real sweetie. She told my husband after we first met that he better hold on to me, I was the right one for him- we've been married 31 years.

Another reason to become best friends with Elmer's Washable School Glue, thereby minimizing sharp objects that can get away from you and hide (only to be accidentally found by a body part). Now I can say in all honesty that I use it because it is a preventive measure to protect my health from too many sharp objects! Ha ha!

Sometime before I was 8 yrs old I had stepped on a needle and my Mom had to pull it out. It had lodged in the arch of my foot. I had a scar and once in a while it would feel like I had a charlie horse in the arch. I started to grow a callous on that spot and when I was about 12 or 13 the callous got really big, so we put a callous patch on it to get rid of it. When the skin got soft enough to remove, up through the skin came about 1" of the eye end of the needle. It was black and had been in my foot for at least 4-5 years!

I was a hairdresser and used to get hairs lodged into myself. I used to use wax to pull out the harder ones also glue. I purchased a magnet on a roller at a hardware store. Wasn't very expensive but my kids had fun with it. Husband uses it every once in a while to pick nails and other metals up out of the yard. Automotive shops have magnets in different shapes and sizes. I would check them out. They're worth the money.

And I thought I was the only one to have a hair imbed itself in the sole of my foot.....My husband and son have laughed at me when I tried to get them to find that hair in my foot. Before I was old and fat, I could dig them out by myself; now I have to get one of them to do it. And I bought a callous patch today to give that a try--I have a sore spot in the middle of my right foot that has been worrying me for a week. Thanks, yngldy...

I've heard a similar tale at my previous guild. One of the members had apparently stepped on a pin, didn't know it, and it actually traveled up her leg. She had to have it removed surgically. She was fine after that. That story made me sure to keep my shoes on in my quilting areas.
