Ok, here goes....
I watch Survivor and I know there are those of you who watch too. Well, when the show was in Palau, they showed Jellyfish Lake (http://www.nwf.org/News-and-Magazine...llyfishes.aspx) and I was mesmerized with it. Gee....guess what? Palau is only a 2 1/2 hour flight from Guam! So, ever since we got here, I kept saying...I want to go to Jellyfish Lake. Hubby says...go, have fun, I'll be home with the cats. UGH! So Courtney says she'll go too. Sure, anything for a free vacation. lol
Well, pricing JUST airline tickets, it's almost $800 r/t from Guam to Palau. Yes,,,insane, huh?
I got to thinking....I've always wanted to go to Vietnam. So I just start pricing on Expedia.com and Orbitz. I can get tickets, WITH hotel for 5 nights/6 days for just over $900. There is so much history in Vietnam, that I wouldn't be bored.
With Palau, the ONLY thing I want to do is Jellyfish Lake. That's it, nothing else.
So, if you had a choice, which would you take?
I've already told hubby that I intend on going to Vietnam before we leave, just have to work out the time/dates because of packers and such....still no orders as of yet.

So, would you take Vietnam over Palau?
I'm just tossing this out there, but I really already made my decision, so it's really not a dilemma anymore....lol

if you go to Viet Nam take lots of pictures and post them for my DH - he was there in 63-64, Da Nang, "Ho Chi Min City" (Saigon), Hue (the old Imperial City) etc (up north)...
Monkey Mountain
Marble Mountain
lots of pagodas
shrines
China Beach
he has no clue what has changed in 46 years LOL

Take lots of pictures. Just know that the one place you don't go, you will still always want to go visit.
I assume you are going to Vietnam. Please do take lots of pictures for the same reason as JJs stated. My DH was there also.
Enjoy and take care. Let us know when you go.

I've always wanted to go. Hubby thinks I'm crazy, but it's just something about it that draws my attention. No clue what it is. I've been wanting to go for about 15 years. When we were planning our trip to Australia, I kept trying to say...Vietnam, but was outvoted, so Australia is where we went. Don't get me wrong, I had a wonderful time and all, but my heart was set on Vietnam and I thought I could convince the other 2 that we should go.
I always take tons of pictures and those that know of my travels know that I always try to send postcards too. But, since I will be on such a limited budget (yes, hubby gave me a budget, but only because I have another overseas trip planned when I get back to the states)....I really won't be able to send postcards. My favorite 5th grade class and a few small children who love their Auntie Terri will get cards, but that will be the extent of my sending.

Now, to find just the right vacation package.......

Wow!!!! Either sounds like a fantastic choice, but no matter what choice you make will you wish you had done the other??? Maybe you could look at prices to go to both from where you're at now versus what it would be to get there from here. It may be that it's still not that expensive to get to VietNam from here? I don't know ~ it's just a thought I had. I can't wait to hear your decision and how you made it. That jellyfish lake looks SO cool I'd be Soooooo tempted!!!

Wow -- both trips sound just wonderful!! But I think I would go to Vietnam -- so much history!

You are so lucky to be so close to places that most of us can only dream about visiting -- yeah, I'm jealous  but happy for you!!

That's the ONLY good thing about being here. So close to Asia.
I found tickets for $472 each and then found a nice hostel (has good reviews) for $13/night. Total for 2 tickets and 5 nights (have to pay per person for the hostel) is $1074. Just for the flight to Palau would cost me more than that! Then hotels there are $150+ a night and would also need rental car at $50 day....Palau trip would cost double of Vietnam trip.
Hmm....guess I need to start seeing what the shopping is like there too! I've already checked out the sightseeing....undergrown tunnels, churches, river rides and such, but haven't checked the shopping yet. <gasp!>
