In an ongoing effort to cut our monthly expenses we've gotten rid of our cable tv and the house phone. To top it off we don't have any converter boxes! So far so good. The kids are not really missing it yet.....they can watch the few shows that they really enjoy online and they ahve tons of online games they like. The quiet is amazing! Just knowing the tv won't be on makes it quieter. We've been heading outdoors in the evenings after supper and watching the kids play for a bit. The only problem is I hand quilt at night when we watch tv! Now I have to get a new routine in place! So far by turning these two off I'm saving $70 a month! We all have a cell phone so we didn't really use the house phone anyway.

Great job. We have been TV less in our home for over 15 years. There are no shows we can watch cause around here you need cable.
We do a lot of reading, card games, some computer games and occasionally watch movies, which are our choice!!!

i don't want to be without a tv, but i know I could survive. In a week's time, I probably watch about 6-7 hours, maybe. Sometimes less.
Hubby is the remote king.
He bugs me, when I am standing in the dining room...he can see me...and he clicks on something, and leaves it for five minutes...just long enough for me to really want to know what's going to happen next...and then...he's clicking again! :?
He says he just doesn't want to hear the commercials and is going back to his show...fine, I'm off to the cave or the computer...whatever :wink:

I wish we could go without tv. Would love to get rid of the dsl and landline. I think DS would go balistic. I only watch the news and have it on for noise when I'm sewing, so I guess I would miss it. I don't go on the internet much on the week ends- we could always come to the office to use it if we needed to.

I bet we could save over $140 a month if it all went away.

I haven't watched TV in 22 years. (And I'm 40 yo) When I tell some people that they say they couldn't imagine not watching TV. They can't believe that I have no idea what the show "Friends" is or "Lost" They mention a bunch of others, but I have no idea what they are talking about. I have watched movies at my dads house, but that is the only way that I have seen movies. No TV. I don't have a land-line either. Just cell phone.

I think TV is the biggest waste of time out there. I read, listen to the news, sew, walk, play with my animals, work! I must say that there are some very educational shows on TV like National Geographic and such. I am not into "watching" sports. I would much rather listen to a ball game or go bass fishing than watch it on TV. And letting your kids sit in front of a TV is not helping them any. Get them outside in the fresh air! Make them read, play ball with them - interact with them. That is what will help them!

I'm very limited on my tv watching - just a couple of shows & they tend to be on the dvr for when I want to watch them.

Since you can watch a lot of shows via websites like hulu.com, I could live without cable (again).

I don't know how to use the dvr. :) I need a kid for it. I also don't know how to turn on the heat or air conditioning in the house. I have no time for such nonsense. :) I just tell them the air can be no lower than 78 and the heat no higher than 70.

I have a question!....How are you doing online w/o phone or a cable? I just have to know...we have ours thru our phone line which has to have a 'metro' number so anyone west of us is not long distance...which is everybody! Our phone at home alone is $80! Then we have our online charge on top of that.

Congratulations! I keep my land line for my dial up computer, and I have one converter box for 1 TV. I admire people who are not locked into TV. :thumbup:

we have the option with our local company of having what service we want. I just had the phone and cable turned off and kept the high speed internet. If I had dial up I would have to have the landline. Two of the older dd's are doing online classes so loosing internet was not an option. Not that i would want it gone either!
