Many designs available. Embroidery Library is my go to for great designs. They also have a service to divide designs to be able to stitch large designs in a smaller hoop.
Since the 4" machines were the first introduced, there are lots and lots and lots of designs available. Monogramming is also a great thing to do.
Here's a good site to get an idea of designs available:

Semper Fi! This gift will keep her busy when her Marine is serving his country and will enable her to give great gifts for her fellow Marine wives or girlfriends. Blessed and safe Christmas to both sets of family

My Brother embroidery machine also does 4x4 designs. I have been able to do a lot with it. I mostly purchase designs from www.embroiderylibrary.com

Other sized hoops won't work. Thanks though.
