I was reading the question that KwiltyKahy posted..and all the answers she got. I was shocked to see some of the answers.. if they start so early..and get out so late..

How long each day do they go to school?
How many days off during the school year?

Our schools K to 8th start at 8:10 am to 3:00 pm
9th to 12th 8:04 am to 3:06 pm

They get 23 1/2 days off during the entire school year..thats including Christmas Break..and Spring Break.

Mine got out May 16 th and go back on Aug.10th. Don't know how many days off, I think 2 weeks at Christmas, one at Easter, and spring break. They go from 8 to 3 and is k - 12. It is small private school with only about 350 kids. Mine has 12 in his class, the same kids as last year and the year before. He is going in 6th.

My dgd will be homeschooled at an online public school this year so she'll not have the travel time to and from. But she is required to "be in school" 6 hrs/day. She still has a "teacher" and her mother is the "learning coach" that she is accountable to them.
When she attended regular school she boarded the bus at 6:55 a.m. and returned home as late as 5:00 p.m. This was straight from school not from child care...Her school time started at 7:45 and ended at 3:00...she also had a bus change... yes it was a school bus not public transportation

we take our grandson to and from school..he starts Aug 3rd ...it starts at 8:20 A.M. and gets out at 3:10 P.M....he will be inhte 2nd grade...(can't wait for the almost 3 yr old twins to get in school)...they get out a week in mid fall and mid spring and two weeks at Christmas...we have so many snow days here they go into the first week of June at least...this past yr they only got about 2 days off total from Christmas til summer because of snow and floods...making up the missed days because of inclement weather

Wow in Australia it's 9 - 3 pretty standard.. although some schools have seniors (yr 11 and 12) starting 7:45 and finishing at 1. With 6 weeks off at christmas and 6 weeks off during the year. I think I prefer our hours!

In terms of hours, thats 6 hours a day (minus 1 hour for lunch) so 5 hours of actual school work.

My sons school starts at 8:30 and finishes at 2:30

School holidays are approximately 18 December to 1 February

Then 2 weeks at Easter
2 weeks around June/July
2 weeks around September/October

We seem to have our vacation time spread out a little more.

I think our district runs second week of Aug. To third week of May, with two weeks out at Christmas, two days for fall break and one week for spring break. 8 to 3-ish.
