They are beautiful lace making bobbins. You are lucky to have them as a collection.

I stand corrected. I thought that I had seen something like this for tatting a long time ago. BrendaK

Definitely a lacemaker's tools. They are beautiful and collectable. I have thought of trying lacemaking but couldn't come to grips with even simple macrame. Lacemaking is such an old craft and handmade lace is superb.

They are Torchon lace making bobbins and pillows. A pattern, called a pricking, is placed on a pillow and the thread is wrapped around pins which are pushed into the pattern. The bone or ivory ones are worth a lot of money.

I watched that You Tube Croatian Lace Making - How absolutely marvelous. Never knew about that before. I always thought lace was crocheted. Those bobbins are a treasure and you have the lap pillow also. I hope you learn how to do that. I sent this to my sister. She loves this kind of designing. Edie

Oh my goodness! Watched that video about Croatian lace...absolutely breathtaking....and we sometimes wrestle with a quilt block! What a stunning art-craft and unfortunately seems to be going the way of so many handcrafted things.... Wish I could get my hands on some of that beautiful lace....will have to start looking........

I'm green with envy here! I learned to make bobbin lace in college and made some for my wedding dress. I only had a board and pins. I would love to have this! Treasure it!
