after 10 years of building they just cut through from both sides of the alps connecting 36 miles of a future traintunnel. On the diameter of 11 yards (they build two tubes) they "missed" each other by 1 inch vertically and 3.5 inch horizonatally..........
how come it is so hard to get the sashing match!?

I think it is pretty amazing that they even found each other 1.5 miles under the tip of the alps.........
And it got also pretty emotional also as the first miner changed sides with the statue of St.Barbara and placed it next to the pictures of the 8 miners that lost their lives during those 10 years.
Even our transport minister was fighting his tears....

Swiss are always a bit slow and the alps very hard
No, back then they started with a tunnel for cars and in order to get the trucks out of that tunnel they started 10 years ago with a traintunnel and within another 7 years all goods will be transported by train.
It is quite important for whole europe as we are the main transit route from north to south.
Crazy to consider that all this was done by donkeys over the summit only 60 years ago!?
