I mentioned saving empty wooden thread spools under the topic "Thread" and many people have made suggestions about projects using wooden thread spool.

Anyone have photos of projects made with wooden thread spools.

Yes, but the vintage spools come on wooden ones - and that's mostly where they come from nowadays (you are correct - hardly any of the thread manufacturers nowadays put them on wooden spools)... people sell wooden spools by the lots on EBay not only for crafting purposes but because sometimes some of them are worth some serious money... just watch Antiques Roadshow. If you find one of those and sell it, man are you gonna be able to deck out your sewing room that's for sure! I actually like the classic wooden spools... something about them just seems more, I don't know... it just connects with sewing and the olden days more to me. I guess to summarize, it reminds me of simpler times...

Explosive blessings, abundance and inspiration to you all!

I'm not sure as to which size spools you are referring but a friend of mine has sent me several small wooden spools with minature hand-painted pictures on them. In the photo that I've included, I needed two strands of thread to accomodate sewing with a twin needle. I didn't have two spools of thread of the same color so I wound a bobbin and used one of my pretty painted spools to raise up the bobbin to the correct level that I needed. It worked perfectly and I liked being able to see my pretty painted spool in use.

I gave away a bunch of old wooden spools because I couldn't figure out what to do with them. I kept a few little ones to go in my vintage thread holders but that is all.
