What fun! It was in the 90's yesterday in parts of Southern California! My cat basks in the sun that shines through a wide sliding glass door into my sewing room -- I've had to keep insulated drapes shut to keep room usable this week.

We have had a wood burner for 20+ years. We have one that is on a pedestal that you can leave the double doors open like a fireplace. My Dobe, Tanner would stand with his body so close to the open doors that his hair would start to singe. Finally had to put up a screen to keep him out. He also knew what the wood was for. When I would fill up the wood rack I would give him a pc and he would bring it in the house and stand with it in his mouth in front of the stove. Man I miss that dog....

I must tell you that when I do cook on my woodstove we do on top of stove an old fancy grate about 9" x 20" that is raised. We also placed a 9"circle cast iron disc that has holes in it. This keeps the pots a little above the surface. Don't remember where these came from but my husband is a pack rat! and he has lived in our house for 70 years and his parents owned an old farm house where they "never threw anything out.
