Greetings Diana, from freezing Saskatchewan (That's Canada, eh ) I work in a sewing maching sales/ quilt shop, Singer doesn't have the reputation that it used to have. Stay away from your local Walmart and their Brother machines. Check out your local sewing machine shops and see what kind of brands they sell and see what kind of extended warrenties they offer. Our store offers an additional 2 years on top of the one year manufacturers. Pfaff and Janome are always a good bet, but stay away from the first machine in a new series, they always have a few bugs to work out, which could mean time in the shop on recalls. Hope this has been helpful, I am also in the process of picking out a new machine, and can't make up my mind, it can be anywhere from a small $300 machine into thousands. Greetings from your new friend in Saskatchewan. Hope I was helpful and if you have anymore questions, just yell. B

Welcome from Tennessee! Can't help much with machines, other than to think real hard about what you want to be able to do, then get the next higher machine. Your always gonna wanna to do more.
