Hello from Beautiful Northwest Washington!
Hey everyone!
I'm excited to have found this website, and I'm looking forward to chatting with you all about quilting, as well as learning more about quilting in general
I learned to sew at a young age (my mom is a great seamstress, and she taught me to sew), but after making several articles of clothing and realizing that I wouldn't be caught dead in them, I gave up on sewing for the most part until my late-20's, when a co-worker asked me to make a quilt/duvet cover out of some fabric that she had found to go in her newborn son's nursery. Long story short, after working on that project, and visiting some local quilt shops and seeing how many fabulous fabrics are out there, I was hooked! The thought that I could play with all of those fabrics and make something useful, but that I wouldn't have to wear unless I was cold , well, I was in heaven
Now I'm in my mid-30's, I have 3 small children who are a lot of fun, and quilting is one of my favorite hobbies to do for fun and relaxation (even if I only get one seam sewn at a time! ha ha! As far as my favorite types of quilts go, I tend to gravitate towards modern, geometric designs, fusible applique (because it's fast! ), and brightly colored fabrics (LOVE color, and if I could get away with decorating my whole house in batik fabrics, I would ha ha! I enjoy the whole quilting process, including the quilting itself, and I love to do free-motion quilting on my quilts (I've done some hand quilting, but as my hand sewing isn't the greatest and I don't have a lot of time, I find that I enjoy machine-quilting more).
Anyways, I guess that wasn't really 'long story short', but that's me in a large nutshell, and I look forward to meeting you all through this board =) Thanks for your contributions that make this quilting board possible!
