Well I have gone an done it, I registered! I am of all things a GUY that likes to quilt.

I got started in this crazy world of sewing when I was starting on my interior for my 1951 Ford (hence screen name) and decided that I could do it myself instead of dropping the money on it. I found a sewing machine in my attic that was there when I bought the house (also built in 1951) and decided to get it down and try it out. It was a Singer model 27 from 1911 and after getting it working I bought a treadle and restored it and here we go!

So after getting interested in vintage machines I started buying and restoring them but wanted to use them for something other than something to look at. So I made a quilt for my wife without any instructions or help of any kind (it was a simple 9 patch with a 6" borders around the blocks). After it was said and done I picked up a quilting book and I did everything that was recommended on how to make a quilt until the binding, I didn't fold the binding in half before assembly. Other than that it was built right and has been used for the last year and washed every week thanks to the dogs and has held together without needing any mending. :D

Now I have a nice shop in the back yard that is set up just for quilting and restoring my machines. All of my machines are treadle operated and the quilting table in my shop has a central treadle but I can change plates out in the top to accommodate the different machines that I want to use for which ever quilt I am making at the time.

But the way I see it is that I am just getting started in the world of quilting and I have a long way to go before I can say I am a quilter. So I am hoping to make friends and learn all about this wonderful hobby that I have gotten myself into.

Billy

Welcome Billy. You were a quilter the day you imagined that quilt for your wife. Can't wait to see your work posted online. Oh, and welcome from Pleasant Hill, CA!

Welcome from West Virginia! Glad to see you interested in the treadle machines. They are workhorses along with the Featherweights. We need folks who can restore and repair them.
