Katie, to learn to sew you kind of need to just jump in. Like someone else suggested, start with something simple. Pull-on pj bottoms, pillow cases or simple tops. And don't be too critical of your work. You will get better as you go along.

Check to see if there's beginner sewing classes anywhere near or check with your local county extension agent. If those turn out to be dead ends, ask your friends if they know how to sew. Bet they'd be glad to help.
