Hi, I am fairly new to quilting and would love to learn how to use a long arm quilting machine. Does anyone know where you can get lessons? I live in Linden, New Jersey and there are not any stores in my immediate area. The last quilt that I made cost a small fortune to get it quilted/finished. I want to be able to do my own quilting so that I can say, "I made this" having someone else do quilting, to me is not making the quilt my self. If I can get lessons, I will buy a frame and machine, but do not want to spend this kind of money yet if I cannot use a long arm quilter.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
NormaBeth

Hi everhyone, how long have you been quilting? I have only been doing this for about 6 months. Finished four quilts so far, have a lot more to make for the rest of my family.

Hi, I live in NJ, too. I have taken lessons and rented time on a long arm at Olde City Quilts in Burlington, NJ. I live in the Trenton area, though. Linden is in North Jersey, right? My mom has a long arm and she just keeps working to get better at the techniques. She's talked to people at quilt shows and in Paduca, but she's never had any formal lessons.

Hi yes I am on Northern NJ - exit 136 off the parkway and exit 13 off the the turn pike. Did they give you lessons where you rent the long arm?

Yes, I had to do a 3 hour one-on-one class and then I was permitted to rent the machine. You can also do free motion quilting on some regular sewing machines, but it works best for me for smaller projects.

Welcome NormaBeth, and Happy New Year from Minnesota!

I have a long arm and they threw in two full days of training when we bought it....otherwise my sister and I were getting ready to rent time on a long arm where they would have given us lessons before we started.
