I am very, very new to quilting and have never made a quilt  but would like to learn how to do this! My name is Jackie Smith and I live in Clinton, Tennessee, USA. This is the first quilting site that I have visited.

I have purchased a few items that I thought one might need to start quilting but not sure if I was correct about some of them.

I used to watch my grandmother quilt back in the early 60's but she did it all by hand and never used a sewing machine. I have some of her quilts still today!

Greetings from CA. Many quilting-related methods have changed since your grandma's time. We generally use rotary cutters, rulers and mats to cut fabric now. Many of us use the machine. What has not changed is the passion and love that goes with the craft. Come join us. Grandma will be proud.

The board will get you going on your first quilt. I'm on #3 now with their help.

Bailey's nana, you have come to the right place.
As a suggestion: I am a very visual learner, so, having a good book for beginner's, such as Carol Doak's, "Your First Quilting Book...or Should Be", will provide you with so many pictures and step by step instructions. Amazon.com is one site that has it, and you can get it used to save money.
For me, the day I learned, it's not how perfect your seam widths are, as long as the piece that is showing, is the right width and length, that is the day, all my quilting improved.
I use a mechanical pencil, bc I can get a very thin, light line to use as a sewing guide.
Anytime you want or need to ask questions, there are so many here willing to help.
Pictures of what your working on will make it easier for someone to help you.
A bunch of ppl on here, once walked a lady, (can't recall her name now), through making an heirloom baby quilt, from start to finish.
I'm not the best at explaining things, but there sure are a lot here, that are, and they are the nicest bunch of ppl, you'll stay too long for the company!

Hey Baileysnana, Welcome from Florida and you'll learn tons on this site! Be sure and look at the pictures people post (in Pictures) and also read the different questions and answers and the tutorials. It won't take long for you to see what's very easy to make and gradually you can work up from there. We're glad to have you join us.
