Hello, my name is Trudi. I am from No.Logan, Utah. I am currently putting the ruffle on my granddaughter's quilt we started last summer at a family reunion. Lol. I have forgotten how to do the gather stitch on my sewing machine or how to gather it. I don't have the book, whereas my machine went thru so many hands after mom died. :( Any advise?

Mark the ruffle fabric every 1/4 of it's lengthy. Do a long running stitch. Leave the thread ends long. Tie a knot in the thread at one end. Grab on long thread on the other end and start pulling. Keep pulling and adjusting until the gathers are even the length of the fabric. Using the marking you made, pin it to the edge of the quilt and sew.

Wow! That reads much more complicated than it is. Maybe someone with better teaching skills than me will chime in.

That's exactly how I would have said it! Welcome from Michigan. I have family in Fillmore, about 2 hours south of Salt Lake City. It's one of my most favorite places in the country.

Hi, I am just north or you about 30 miles just west of Preston. Its fun to learn about you- and we're not that far away. I hope that you are able to find the right things out withyour machine.

I have a Bernina, and I usually have to change my differential and lengthen my stitch. (this gathers the fabric for you)

    or

You can even lengthen your stitch to a 5 and sew from egde to edge...(don't back stitch) I like to do it two times a 1/4 in apart then if one breaks I don't necessarily have to start over. It also helps to get a nice straight ruffle.

What type of machine do you have?

Many times I have called Stylich fabrics there in Logan and they can usually walk me through anything over the phone.

Did you see my blog yet? I posted it just a little while ago. Its

Maybe I could help you with any quilting needs too.

Ah-ha!! This is how I remember doing it! QuiltingIdaho, Thank you so much! Your quilts are beautiful! My "Adopter Grandmother" a sweet lil old lady that lived across the street from us, made me a purple, satin hand-stitched quilt of the Logan Temple when I got married the first time. It's now in storage. :?

I look forward to getting to know all of you! I'm so excited!!

    Thanks again! Hugs!
